Production of the 2027 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport X is now underway, according to the latest C8 Corvette production tracker posted by Roger Kiel. The tracker shows the first Grand Sport X units entering production at General Motors’ Bowling Green Assembly plant in Kentucky in August, marking the start of assembly for the electrified Corvette variant.
Dealers were able to start submitting Grand Sport X orders in July.
Chevrolet introduced the Grand Sport X alongside the rear-wheel-drive C8 Grand Sport earlier this year as part of a significant expansion of the Corvette lineup. The GSX replaces the E-Ray and combines the new naturally aspirated 6.7L V8 LS6 with a front-mounted electric motor. The result is 721 horsepower, 665 pound-feet of torque, and electric all-wheel drive.
The LS6 itself produces 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque. The front electric motor contributes another 186 horsepower and 145 pound-feet, using technology derived from the range-topping Corvette ZR1X. The GSX also receives carbon-ceramic brakes, Magnetic Ride Control, and Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4 tires as standard equipment.
The new model carries a starting price of $112,195 for the coupe, including the destination freight charge, while the hardtop convertible starts at $119,195. That positions the GSX substantially below the $227,395 starting price of the ZR1X while offering some of the same electrified drivetrain technology.
The Grand Sport name returned to the Corvette lineup for 2027 after Chevy retired it following the C7 generation. Mike Kociba, assistant chief engineer for the next-generation V8, summed up the philosophy behind the new powertrain: “Combining large displacement, modern technology, and proven Small Block V8 heritage will deliver a bold new chapter in performance.”
With Corvette Grand Sport X production now underway, GM is completing the rollout of one of the most technically significant additions to the C8 Corvette lineup. The first customer deliveries should follow as Bowling Green ramps up production of the new hybrid performance model. The Grand Sport X accounted for 5.2% of all C8s produced in the first two weeks.
